I've always thought that Torinos looked fat and the Montego looks slimmer.

The fun part is I snuck my own car in. :-)

I can somewhat agree on the slimmer looks though, something about the hood and body lines down the side is just different enough.

My absolute favorite thing about the Montego is everyone forgets about it. When you pull up in a Montego everyone says...what's that?

You can say that about almost any Mercury that isn't a direct Ford look-alike clone.

And the look-alikes just get mistaken for Fords.

It pains me that Ford starved Mercury to death like it did.

My wife likes the previous-generation Ford Escapes, I keep trying to suggest getting a Mercury Mariner, instead... just because Mercury.

I grew up in a euro and then a Fox capri, and learned to drive a stick in a 91 Capri convertible... so Mercury is a bit special to me.

If I were to ever build the de-branded Mustang II resto-mod with the full-width 71-73 front grille and flat hood... I would be tempted to change enough about it otherwise, and put 70's era Mercury badges on it. Not Capri or Cougar, because it isn't either one of those... maybe Comet or Cyclone, though, or just as an un-named Mercury.

I'd go un-named Mercury. And the Winged Head Mercury logo is IMO one of the coolest car logos ever, so lucky it's on my car. The Comet might work, to match up for size, but the Cyclone was always a bigger car than a Mustang.

Mine is actually a Cyclone...just not in the normal way. It's a 68 Mercury Montego MX with the Cyclone GT Package (which got me a sway bar and power steering. No power brakes...thanks guys). The Cyclone was also a stand-alone model for 68. My car is the 4th one down, red with black vinyl roof.

I hate that they killed Mercury too. I drive an 07 Mercury Milan V6 as my DD, its just like the Fusion...but a little classier. That's what I've always liked.
